Prince Edward, Duke of Kent

Born 9 October 1935, Edward inherited his dukedom at six when his father died in a plane crash during the Second World War. A grandson of George V and first cousin to Elizabeth II, he spent decades carrying out royal duties on her behalf — over 140 charities, trade missions until 2001, and ceremonial posts from the University of Surrey to the Royal Institution.
