Born 26 September 1965, Poroshenko built a fortune in confectionery and media before rotating through cabinet posts — foreign affairs, trade, central bank chief. He won the presidency in May 2014 with 55% in the first round, inheriting a country at war. That summer and fall he clawed back most of the Donbas from separatists, then signed the Minsk agreements in September 2014 and February 2015, freezing the lines and sharply cutting casualties.
