She was the voice on the other end of that breakup - the one in "Somebody That I Used to Know" that went diamond and swept the Grammys. But Kimbra's been building her own thing the whole time: a tangle of pop, R&B, jazz, and rock that refuses to sit still.

About this person

Kimbra Lee Johnson was born 27 March 1990 in New Zealand and arrived under her own name with Vows in 2011 - "Settle Down" and "Cameo Lover" pushed it into the top 5 at home and in Australia. Then came 2011's "Somebody That I Used to Know" with Gotye, a diamond single that hit number one in the US and won Record of the Year at the 55th Grammys, making her the third New Zealander to take home a Grammy. Vows got reworked for North America in 2012, debuting at number 14 on the Billboard 200 with new tracks including a Nina Simone cover and a collaboration with Mark Foster and A-Trak. The Golden Echo followed in 2014, Primal Heart in 2018, A Reckoning in January 2023, and Idols & Vices (Vol. 1) in September 2024. She's collected four ARIA Awards and seven New Zealand Music Awards along the way.
