Katy Perry
American singer · United States · On the map · Musicians · Born 1984 · age 42
She turned a kiss into a cultural flashpoint, then built a machine: five number-ones off one album, a feat no other woman has matched. The camp aesthetic, the tiger-riding videos, the 151 million records sold - Perry turned sugar-shock pop into a Billboard dynasty.

I tend to be mostly a futurist but it would be negligent of me to not acknowledge the incredible impact this last year has had on me.
Today’s answer is yes. I am proud of where and how I have landed in this moment. Proud of myself, proud of my fans and proud that I keep on swinging.
My best friend once gave me a framed 19th century book called What Katy Did Next. I’ve never read it, but the title has always stuck with me.

About this person
Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson started at 16 with a failed gospel album under her birth name, then moved to Los Angeles and signed to Capitol Records. One of the Boys (2008) and its lead single "I Kissed a Girl" broke her through, but Teenage Dream (2010) rewrote the rules - the only album by a woman to spin five U.S. number-ones, from "California Gurls" to "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)". Prism (2013) added "Roar" and "Dark Horse" to the tally. The albums that followed - Witness, Smile, 143 - came with dimmer returns. She spent seven seasons judging American Idol, voiced Smurfette, launched a shoe line, and in 2025 flew to space aboard Blue Origin. Seven diamond certifications and 20 Guinness World Records later, she sits on a $360 million fortune and a catalogue that made her the first artist with multiple billion-view videos on YouTube.
