Born 28 December 1989, Buckley is Irish, a singer as well as an actor, and she entered the industry through I'd Do Anything, the 2008 BBC competition where she finished second. After RADA and early roles in War & Peace and Taboo, she led Beast in 2017 and broke through as an aspiring country singer in Wild Rose the next year, earning a BAFTA nomination. The Lost Daughter in 2021 brought her first Oscar nomination for supporting work as a troubled mother, and she carried Chernobyl, Fargo, and Charlie Kaufman's I'm Thinking of Ending Things in the same stretch. In 2021 her Sally Bowles in the West End Cabaret won the Olivier, and in 2022 she released For All Our Days That Tear the Heart with Bernard Butler, shortlisted for the Mercury Prize. Playing Agnes Shakespeare in Hamnet delivered the sweep in 2025 - Golden Globe, BAFTA, Actor Award, Academy Award for Best Actress - and completed the arc from talent-show contender to the top of the profession.
