Born October 31, 1979, López-Alt turned his "Food Lab" column on Serious Eats into a 2015 book that applied the scientific method to everyday American cooking. The Food Lab landed on the New York Times Bestseller list and won the 2016 James Beard Foundation Award for General Cooking. He co-founded Wursthall, a San Mateo beer hall, in 2017, then pivoted to YouTube with a first-person filming style that puts viewers inside the kitchen. A children's book, Every Night is Pizza Night, arrived in 2020. The Wok: Recipes and Techniques followed in 2022, zeroing in on a single pan - it became another bestseller and earned him a second Beard award.
