The "God of Songs" title isn't hyperbole when you've moved 60 million albums and once outsold every artist on earth except Michael Jackson. Jacky Cheung turned Cantopop into a cross-border empire, filling stadiums on a scale that broke Guinness records and made concert touring itself a different business in Asia.

About this person

Jacky Cheung was born 10 July 1961 in Hong Kong, and his first two albums - Smile (1985) and Amour (1986) - sold 300,000 and 400,000 copies respectively, quick platinum runs that established him as one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Cantopop. Sales sagged in the late 1980s, but The Goodbye Kiss (1993) moved over 4 million copies and became one of the best-selling albums in Asia. In 1995 his albums cleared 5 million copies, making him the second highest-selling artist in the world that year, behind Michael Jackson. He acted in films like As Tears Go By (1988) and The Swordsman (1990), but the concert stage became his proving ground: his 1/2 Century World Tour (2010-2012) set a Guinness World Record for the largest audience for a live act in twelve months, and A Classic Tour (2016-2019) drew over 4.5 million people, one of the most-attended concert tours of all time. He is the best-selling music artist of all time in Taiwan and Hong Kong, with over 60 million albums sold worldwide.
