Biochemist (1903-1982)
A Swedish biochemist whose work unlocked how enzymes actually function at the molecular level — the kind of foundational science that never makes headlines but rewrites textbooks.
Axel Hugo Theodor Theorell was born on 6 July 1903 in Sweden. He built a career decoding the mechanics of oxidation enzymes, the molecular machines that keep cells alive. That work earned him the Nobel Prize in medicine. He continued his research for decades, anchoring Swedish biochemistry on the international stage. He died on 15 August 1982.
