X-Men in 2000 made him Wolverine, the role that would shadow and define his career through 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine. Between those films he worked steadily - Kate & Leopold, Van Helsing, The Prestige, Australia, Real Steel, Prisoners - and sang his way to awards: a Tony in 2004 for The Boy from Oz, an Oscar nomination and Golden Globe for Les Misérables in 2012, a Grammy for The Greatest Showman soundtrack. He hosted the Tonys four times and the Oscars once, won an Emmy for the 2005 Tony telecast, and returned to Broadway in 2021 as Harold Hill in The Music Man. In 2019 he was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia.
