George Francis Hotz was born October 2, 1989, and made his name early as geohot, the hacker who developed iOS jailbreaks while still a teenager. He reverse engineered the PlayStation 3, which brought Sony's lawyers down on him in a lawsuit that made headlines but didn't slow him much. In September 2015 he founded comma.ai, a vehicle automation company built on machine learning, and ran it for a decade until November 2025. Since November 2022 he's been building tinygrad, a deep learning framework - still writing the tools that let him see under the hood.
