Lloyd built his foundation in Northeastern theater through the 1960s and early 1970s, collecting Drama Desk and Obie awards before his film debut in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in 1975. The late '70s brought Jim Ignatowski, the beautifully damaged reverend on Taxi, a role that earned him two Emmys and established his gift for playing minds operating on their own frequency. Then came Doc Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy starting in 1985 - the part that made him a fixture in popular memory. He cycled through memorable villains and oddballs: the Klingon commander in Star Trek III, the terrifying Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Uncle Fester across two Addams Family films. A third Emmy arrived in 1992 for a guest spot on Road to Avonlea, and he kept steady in voice work - Rasputin in Anastasia, the Hacker in Cyberchase. Decades on, he's still working, still leaning into the strange.
