Born in San Diego and raised in Long Beach, Diaz signed with Elite Model Management while still in high school. At 21 she landed her film debut opposite Jim Carrey in The Mask, but it was There's Something About Mary in 1998 that made her a sex symbol and earned her first Golden Globe nomination.
