Born January 17, 1962, James Eugene Carrey spent the 1980s grinding through comedy clubs and bit parts before In Living Color (1990-1994) made him visible. Then 1994 detonated: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber in a single year, followed by Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls and Batman Forever in 1995. That five-film run made him the first comic actor to command $20 million upfront, starting with The Cable Guy in 1996. He kept the hits coming - Liar Liar, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Bruce Almighty - but The Truman Show (1998) and Man on the Moon (1999) won him Golden Globes for dramatic work, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) earned BAFTA and Golden Globe nods. Since the 2010s he's slowed down, returning for Dumb and Dumber To and the Sonic the Hedgehog films as Doctor Eggman, plus a seventh Golden Globe nomination for the tragicomedy series Kidding.
