King of the Neo-Assyrian Empire from 883 to 859 BC, whose name meant "Ashur is guardian of the heir" and whose reign bridged his father Tukulti-Ninurta II and his son Shalmaneser III.
Ashur-nasir-pal II became the third king of the Neo-Assyrian Empire in 883 BC, succeeding his father Tukulti-Ninurta II. He ruled for twenty-four years alongside his queen Mullissu-mukannišat-Ninua. His reign ended in 859 BC when his son Shalmaneser III took the throne.
