Baasha of Israel

Baasha was the son of Ahijah of the Tribe of Issachar, and his path to the throne ran through assassination. Once crowned as the third king of the northern Israelite Kingdom of Israel, he ruled a fractured nation that had split from the Davidic line. The Hebrew Bible records his reign in 1 Kings 15:16–16:7, a passage that traces both his consolidation of power and the prophetic judgment that hung over his house. What he built through force, force eventually undid: his dynasty, like the one he overthrew, would not outlast his son.
