Muhammad's fifth wife (c. 596–625)
Muhammad's fifth wife, known as "Mother of the Poor" — a title that outlasted the scant historical record of a woman who died young, around 625, leaving almost no trace beyond the name and the care it memorialized.
Zaynab bint Khuzayma was born around 596 and married Muhammad as his fifth wife. She earned the name Umm al-Masākīn — Mother of the Poor — though what she did to earn it has been lost to time. She died in 625, early enough that the details of her life barely survived her. What remains is the outline: a marriage, a reputation for charity, and an early grave that left her the least documented of Muhammad's wives.
