About

Born Allan Stewart Konigsberg in November 1935, he started as a comedy writer for Sid Caesar, then refined a fretful intellectual persona in Greenwich Village clubs and pieces for The New Yorker. After slapstick turns like Take the Money and Run and Sleeper, he made Annie Hall in 1977—a romantic comedy-drama with Diane Keaton that swept four Oscars and sealed him as an auteur of the New Hollywood wave.
