Biography
About
Born in April 1545, Túpac Amaru—his name meaning "royal" or "shining" and "snake" in Quechua—became Sapa Inca of the Neo-Inca State, the final independent fragment of the Inca Empire still resisting Spanish rule. For months the Spanish hunted him after the state's collapse. On 24 September 1572, the pursuit ended and he was executed, closing the last chapter of Inca sovereignty.
