Tuilaepa Aiono Sailele Malielegaoi, born 14 February 1944, is a Samoan economist who entered parliament in 1981 after winning a by-election for Lepā. He rose quickly to deputy prime minister and finance minister under Tofilau Eti Alesana, also holding tourism and trade portfolios. When Tofilau resigned in 1998, Tuilaepa became prime minister and leader of the Human Rights Protection Party, a position he held until 2021.
