Simeon Borisov Saxe-Coburg-Gotha was born 16 June 1937 and became Tsar Simeon II in 1943 while still a child, with power held by a regency council led by his uncle Kiril, General Nikola Mihov, and prime minister Bogdan Filov. The monarchy was abolished by referendum in 1946, sending him into exile. After communism fell, he returned to Bulgaria in 1996 and founded the National Movement for Stability and Progress.
