About this person

Agüero broke into Argentine football at 15 years and 35 days with Independiente in 2003, shattering a 27-year record held by Diego Maradona, who would later become his father-in-law. A €23 million move to Atlético Madrid followed in 2006, where he won the UEFA Europa League and Super Cup before Manchester City paid £35 million for him in 2011. Over ten years at City he became the club's all-time top scorer, collected five Premier League titles, six EFL Cups, and an FA Cup, and set the record for most Premier League hat-tricks with 12. For Argentina he won gold at the 2008 Olympics with two goals in the semi-final against Brazil, played at three World Cups, and lifted the Copa América in 2021. A free transfer to Barcelona in 2021 lasted just four matches - one goal in El Clásico - before heart problems forced him to retire at 33.
