Ruel turned the bedroom-producer dream into chart runs before he could vote. The Sydney teenager's "Dazed & Confused" won him Australia's Breakthrough Artist trophy at 16, and singles like "Don't Tell Me" and "Painkiller" kept the momentum rolling on streaming playlists worldwide.

About this person

Ruel Vincent van Dijk was born 29 October 2002 and grew up in Sydney, where he started writing and recording under his first name alone. By 2018 he had a breakout on his hands: "Dazed & Confused" earned him the ARIA Breakthrough Artist award while he was still in his teens. He followed with a string of singles - "Don't Tell Me", "Younger", "As Long as You Care", "Painkiller" - that built a loyal base without a full album in sight. That changed on 3 March 2023, when he finally released his debut studio record, 4th Wall, nearly five years after the first wave of attention.
