Nigel Mansell spent 15 seasons in Formula One, starting in 1980, and collected 31 Grand Prix wins before claiming the World Drivers' Championship with Williams in 1992. As reigning F1 champion he made an unlikely jump to American open-wheel racing and won the IndyCar World Series with Newman/Haas in his debut season, 1993 — a double no one else has managed.
