Born in Monte Carlo in 1997, Leclerc started karting at seven and took the junior World Cup in 2011. He tore through the junior ladder - Formula Renault runner-up, fourth in his rookie European F3 season, GP3 champion in 2016, then the inaugural FIA Formula 2 title in 2017 as a rookie, breaking records along the way. Ferrari's academy placed him at Sauber for 2018; by 2019 he was in the red car alongside Sebastian Vettel. At Bahrain he became the second-youngest polesitter ever, then won in Belgium and ended Ferrari's Italian Grand Prix drought at Monza, earning the nickname "il Predestinato" from the tifosi. Two winless years followed before 2022 brought multiple victories and a runner-up finish to Max Verstappen in the championship. In 2024 he finally won Monaco, the first Monégasque to do it in 93 years, then added Italy and the United States. Partnered by Lewis Hamilton from 2025, he took Britain in 2026 under new regulations and remains contracted to Ferrari through 2028.
