Nefertari

Nefertari Meritmut rose to become the principal consort of one of Egypt's most powerful pharaohs, Ramesses the Great. In an era when reading and writing hieroglyphs remained the preserve of scribes and priests, she mastered both, turning that education into a diplomatic tool and corresponding directly with other royals across the ancient world. Ramesses marked her status in stone: he built her a temple at Abu Simbel, standing beside his own colossal monument, and commissioned QV66, a tomb in the Valley of the Queens whose scale and decoration remain among the most lavish ever carved. She endures in the same breath as Cleopatra, Nefertiti, and Hatshepsut - the queens whose names outlasted the empire.
