Horus name of the second early Egyptian king of the 2nd dynasty
An Egyptian king from roughly 4,800 years ago whose reign length is anyone's guess — ancient chronicles claim 39 years, modern scholars suspect closer to 10.
Nebra, known by his Horus name Raneb, ruled as the second king of Egypt's 2nd Dynasty. The Turin canon, a key source for dating his rule, is too damaged to settle the question. Manetho, the ancient historian, recorded a 39-year reign, but Egyptologists largely dismiss that figure as error or inflation — possibly a misread of whatever fragmentary records Manetho himself consulted. Current consensus splits between a 10- or 14-year rule. The year accounts are gone, so the exact span remains open.
