Biography

About

Born in 1953 to North Korean refugees in Geoje, Moon Jae-in grew up poor in Busan, studied law at Kyung Hee University, and was jailed for protesting the Yushin Constitution. He became a human rights lawyer alongside Roh Moo-hyun, eventually managing Roh's winning 2002 presidential campaign and serving as his chief of staff. Moon lost the 2012 election to Park Geun-hye but won in 2017 after her impeachment. As president he pursued the Sunshine Policy with North Korea, reformed chaebols, raised the minimum wage over 16%, cut the workweek from 68 to 52 hours, and won global praise for his COVID…
