King of Afghanistan from 1929 to 1933
He took the Afghan throne in 1929 by ending a civil war with force, then held it for four years before a gunman ended him. The crown passed to his son; the method of departure set a pattern.
Mohammed Nadir Shah was born on 9 April 1883 and rose through the Royal Afghan Army as a general, later serving as Minister of War and Afghan Ambassador to France. When civil war tore through Afghanistan in 1928–1929, he returned to crush the fighting and claimed the kingship. He ruled for four years as part of the Musahiban dynasty. On 8 November 1933, he was assassinated. His son Mohammad Zahir Shah took the throne after him.
