Marie Leszczyńska was born 23 June 1703, daughter of Stanislaus I Leszczyński, a deposed King of Poland, and Catherine Opalińska. On 4 September 1725 she married Louis XV and became Queen of France, a position she held until her death 24 June 1768 — 42 years and 9 months, the longest tenure of any French queen. A devout Catholic, she won the affection of the French people through extensive charitable works and brought Polish customs into the rituals of Versailles.
