Biography

About

Born Johanna Maria Magdalena Ritschel on 11 November 1901, she married Günther Quandt and had a son, Harald, before the union ended. Her second marriage, to Joseph Goebbels, made her a prominent member of the Nazi Party and placed her in Hitler's inner circle. Some historians call her the unofficial "first lady" of Nazi Germany, though others assign that role to Emmy Göring. As the Battle of Berlin closed in at the end of World War II in Europe, she and her husband killed their six children with a cyanide compound, then committed suicide in the Reich Chancellery gardens on 1 May 1945.
