Prussian queen consort (1801-1873)
She married into Prussia's throne and spent decades as queen consort to Frederick William IV, channeling royal resources toward art patronage and charity while her Wittelsbach sisters fanned out across Europe's other crowns.
Born 13 November 1801, Elisabeth Ludovika came from Bavaria's House of Wittelsbach with sisters who would marry into Austria and Saxony, stitching the German kingdoms into a web of kinship. Her own marriage brought her to Prussia as the wife of Frederick William IV. Once queen, she backed his artistic ambitions and funneled money to charitable causes, a steady hand in the palace rather than the spotlight. She outlived the reign by years, dying 14 December 1873.
