Kane Parsons, born June 18, 2005, grew up making short films and teaching himself visual effects. In January 2022, at sixteen, he posted the first episode of Backrooms to his YouTube channel, a lo-fi horror series adapted from an internet legend about people clipping through reality into endless liminal rooms. The series caught fire. A24 saw it and backed him to direct a feature-length version. Backrooms released in 2026, debuted at number one domestically and globally, and pulled in over $394 million worldwide. At twenty, Parsons became the youngest director ever to open a film in the top slot on both charts.
