About this person

Bezos was born in Albuquerque and raised in Houston and Miami, graduating from Princeton in 1986 with an engineering degree before working on Wall Street until early 1994. He founded Amazon in mid-1994 during a road trip from New York to Seattle, starting as an online bookstore and expanding into video streaming, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence through Amazon Web Services. He became the first centibillionaire on the Forbes Real Time Billionaires Index and was named the richest man in modern history when his net worth hit $150 billion in July 2018, holding the title of wealthiest person from 2017 to 2021. In 2000 he founded Blue Origin, which reached space with its New Shepard vehicle in 2015; he flew on it himself in 2021. He stepped down as Amazon's CEO in July 2021 to become executive chairman, purchased The Washington Post for $250 million in 2013, and co-founded the longevity research firm Altos Labs in September 2021.
