Born in Pretoria to money, Musk moved to Canada in 1989, earned degrees from Penn in 1997, and rode the first dot-com wave: co-founded Zip2 in 1995, then X.com in 1999, which merged into PayPal and sold to eBay in 2002. That year he founded SpaceX and became a U.S. citizen; two years later he joined Tesla as an early investor, taking the CEO role in 2008. The companies delivered: reusable rockets, mass-market EVs.
