Kushner took over the family real estate business in 2005 after his father's conviction, bought The New York Observer a year later, and married Ivanka Trump in 2009. He became the linchpin of Trump's 2016 campaign, seen at times as its real manager. Appointed senior advisor in 2017 amid nepotism concerns, he steered the First Step Act into law, authored Trump's Middle East peace plan, and negotiated the Abraham Accords that normalized Israeli relations with multiple Arab states in 2020. He also shaped COVID response early on, telling Trump the media overstated the threat. After 2021 he founded Affinity Partners, a private equity shop drawing most of its capital from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. He returned informally in 2025 as a diplomatic intermediary for Gaza and Ukraine, then took an official special envoy post in 2026.
