Charles Kushner founded Kushner Companies in 1985 and built a real estate empire, but in 2005 was convicted of illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion, and witness tampering - crimes that sent him to Federal Prison Camp, Montgomery for two years and cost him his law licenses in three states. His elder son Jared married Ivanka Trump and served as a senior adviser in the first Trump administration. Kushner, once a major Democratic donor, shifted allegiance and contributed heavily to Trump's campaigns. On December 23, 2020, President Trump pardoned him. In 2025, Trump nominated him as ambassador to France and Monaco. The Senate confirmed him 51-45 on May 19, 2025, and he now represents the United States in Paris.
