Born 12 September 1957 in Germany, Hans Florian Zimmer spent his early career in the United Kingdom before relocating to the United States. Since the 1980s he's built a catalogue that fuses electronic textures with traditional orchestral writing, a signature that runs through Gladiator, the Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, and the Pirates of the Caribbean series. He won his first Academy Award for The Lion King in 1994, then waited twenty-seven years for the second, awarded for Dune in 2021. As head of the film music division at DreamWorks and founder of Remote Control Productions, he's collaborated repeatedly with Christopher Nolan across six films and worked with Ridley Scott, Denis Villeneuve, Michael Bay, and Ron Howard. His Santa Monica studio, loaded with keyboards and computer rigs, lets him sketch scores fast. The Daily Telegraph named him one of the Top 100 Living Geniuses in 2007.
