About this person
Born 26 August 1901, Kammler rose through SS ranks to Obergruppenführer, overseeing civil engineering for the regime. He directed the construction of concentration camps - Auschwitz among them - before the leadership shifted him to armaments. In the war's closing phase he took charge of the V-2 rocket program and the Emergency Fighter effort, managing what remained of Nazi Germany's secret weapons development. He disappeared on 9 May 1945 as the Reich collapsed. Whether he died, fled, or was captured has never been confirmed.
