Guccio Giovanbattista Giacinto Dario Maria Gucci was born on 26 March 1881 in Italy. He founded the fashion house that still carries his family name, building it from the ground up as both businessman and designer. His work centered on leather goods, and the enterprise he started in Florence would outlive him by generations. He died on 2 January 1953, seventy-one years old, leaving behind a brand that had only begun its climb.
