Giovanni Agnelli was born on 13 August 1866. In 1899, he founded Fiat S.p.A., steering the company through Italy's early industrialization as automobiles moved from curiosity to necessity. He died on 16 December 1945, leaving behind the industrial architecture of modern Italy.
