Gloria Trevi

Gloria de los Ángeles Treviño Ruiz moved to Mexico City at 15 to study performing arts, met producer Sergio Andrade in 1984, and joined his short-lived girl group Boquitas Pintadas. She tracked him down later for a Los Angeles demo that became her 1989 debut ¿Qué Hago Aquí?, breakthrough single "Dr. Psiquiatra" launching her to fame. Through the 1990s she released Tu Ángel de la Guarda (1991), Me Siento Tan Sola (1992), Más Turbada Que Nunca (1994), and Si Me Llevas Contigo (1995), hits like "Pelo Suelto" and "Zapatos Viejos" cementing her as a sex symbol and international pop icon. In 1997 she retired from public life with Andrade; three years later they were arrested in Rio de Janeiro following complaints of sexual abuse, corruption of minors, and forced labour. After nearly five years in detention - Brazil, then Mexico - she was tried and acquitted in 2004 while Andrade was convicted. She resumed with four number-one albums including Gloria (2011) and El Amor (2015), was inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2018, and in 2025 received the Legend Award at the Hispanic Heritage Awards.
