About this person

De Jong started at Willem II in 2015, then joined Ajax a year later for a symbolic €1 fee with a sell-on clause attached. The 2018-19 season changed everything: he won the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup, was named league player of the season, and became the engine of an Ajax side that stunned Europe by reaching the Champions League semi-finals. Barcelona secured him mid-campaign in January 2019 for €75 million, and he arrived that summer. He debuted for the Netherlands in September 2018, became a starter during their run to the Nations League final, and was named to the 2019 FIFA FIFPRO World 11 - one of three Dutch players in it for the first time in five years. He's since played at Euro 2020, the 2022 World Cup, and the 2026 tournament.
