Eva Braun

Braun met Hitler in Munich in 1929 at seventeen, working as an assistant and model for his personal photographer Heinrich Hoffmann. She began seeing him regularly two years later and attempted suicide twice during their early relationship. By 1936 she was installed at the Berghof near Berchtesgaden, living a sheltered existence throughout the war as a fixture of Hitler's inner circle but absent from public view until 1944, when her sister married an SS officer on his staff. She created many of the surviving colour photographs and films of Hitler. As Germany collapsed in April 1945, she traveled to the Führerbunker in Berlin and married him in a brief civil ceremony on 29 April - she was 33, he was 56. Less than forty hours later, with Red Army troops closing in, they died by suicide in a sitting room: Braun by cyanide capsule, Hitler by gunshot.
