Born in Switzerland in 1992 and raised in Turkey, Enes Kanter moved to the United States as a teenager with a basketball future ahead of him. The Utah Jazz took him third overall in the 2011 NBA draft, and he spent the next 11 seasons as a center in the league. Somewhere along that arc, the game became only part of the story - he took American citizenship and changed his last name to Freedom, a capstone to years of public opposition to the Turkish government that left him unable to return home.
