About this person
Emmanuelle Grey Rossum grew up in New York City and started performing with the Metropolitan Opera before she was ten. Early film work - Mystic River in 2003, The Day After Tomorrow in 2004 - led to her first big spotlight: playing Christine Daaé in the 2004 Phantom of the Opera adaptation, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination. She kept working in features through the 2000s and 2010s, from Poseidon to Beautiful Creatures to Cold Pursuit, and made her stage debut as Juliet in 2006. But in 2011 she took the lead in Showtime's Shameless, playing Fiona Gallagher for nine seasons - a role that became her calling card and won her a Critics' Choice Award. Since leaving the show in 2019, she's moved behind the camera as a director and producer, starred in Peacock's Angelyne in 2022, and returned to acting in The Crowded Room and the upcoming Furious. She's also recorded two albums, Inside Out in 2007 and Sentimental Journey in 2013.
