Edward V became King of England on 9 April 1483, after his father Edward IV died. He was twelve. His uncle, the Duke of Gloucester, took control as Lord Protector, then deposed him on 25 June before any coronation could happen. Parliament passed the Titulus Regius, an act declaring Edward and all his siblings illegitimate and erasing their claims to the throne; Gloucester became Richard III. Edward and his younger brother Richard were sent to guarded lodgings in the Tower of London and disappeared, presumably dead by July 1483.
