Born in Halifax in 1991, raised in Framlingham, Sheeran started writing songs at eleven and self-released No.5 Collaborations Project in early 2011 before signing with Asylum Records. His debut album + (2011) topped the UK charts on the strength of "The A Team"; × (2014) became the second-best-selling album worldwide in 2015 and won the Brit for British Album of the Year, with "Thinking Out Loud" taking two Grammys including Song of the Year. ÷ (2017) broke records when "Shape of You" and "Castle on the Hill" debuted in the top two slots across multiple countries, and the album became the year's global bestseller - the ÷ Tour later became the highest-grossing tour of all time. Since then he's stacked seven more UK number-ones, released four more chart-topping albums (No.6 Collaborations Project, =, −, and Autumn Variations), dabbled in acting (Yesterday, 2019), and racked up 119 million RIAA-certified units in the US. In December 2019 the Official Charts Company named him artist of the decade for the 2010s; Time listed him among the world's 100 most influential people in 2025.
