David Prowse

David Charles Prowse was born 1 July 1935 in England and built his frame as a bodybuilder, strongman, and weightlifter. Before Star Wars, he became a fixture to British children as the Green Cross Man, a superhero figure teaching road safety in public media campaigns. Stanley Kubrick cast him as a manservant in A Clockwork Orange in 1971. Then came the role that defined him: the physical form of Darth Vader in the original trilogy, though the voice was never his.
