Claire Lucia Wineland was born April 10, 1997, and lived with cystic fibrosis from the start. She co-wrote Every Breath I Take, Surviving and Thriving with Cystic Fibrosis with Chynna Bracha Levin, published in 2012. She founded Claire's Place Foundation to support other children and families navigating CF. As a speaker and social media presence, she turned her experience into advocacy. In 2018, at 21, she underwent a double lung transplant. A blood clot formed one week after the surgery. She died September 2, 2018.
