British princess (1766-1828); eldest daughter of George III
The eldest daughter of George III who became Queen of Württemberg through marriage to King Frederick I—a royal bridging two courts in the turbulent late 18th and early 19th centuries.
Charlotte Augusta Matilda was born 29 September 1766, fourth child but eldest daughter of George III and Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. She married Frederick I and became Queen of Württemberg, occupying a throne far from the British court where she'd grown up. She died 6 October 1828, having spent her life between the expectations of a Hanoverian princess and the realities of a German queen.
